Kenward Trust offers a caring,
supportive environment, providing the opportunity for individuals to
develop and grow.
For some, this may be the first such situation
they have known.
The Kenward Trust houses form a progression from
first stage assessment and induction, through counselling, group work
and rehabilitation processes, to supported second stage accommodation
and assistance towards gaining independent, permanent accommodation
where appropriate.
In each first stage house there are counselling
and therapy staff whose principal task is to assist the resident to
discover and confront those problems which led to dependency.
Someone coming to a Kenward Trust house will be
offered a threefold opportunity:
- Their immediate physical and medical well-being
will be attended to by regular diet, visiting the local GP, dentist,
optician and any other necessary medical specialist. A regular routine
and productive day will soon become a welcome part of a new lifestyle.
- Their psychological welfare will be assisted
by, firstly, removing a number of more stressful anxiety producing
hurdles which normally attend the rehabilitation process. They will be
encouraged to enter their own recovery from the first day of their stay
and will be guided through this via client centred counselling, group
work, therapeutic activities including work and recreation, basic
literacy and numeracy and life skills where appropriate.
- Their spiritual development will be actively
encouraged and nourished by participation in a community in which
Christian principles are upheld and pastoral counselling is available.
We do not expect, however, that all residents will have a Christian
faith when they arrive. Neither is it necessary that they should
convert to one. We welcome people of all faiths.
