1 in 4 adults who drink want to cut down on their consumption in 2021, so why not start this January and donate the money you would have spent on alcohol to support our work helping those affected by addiction, homelessness and crime?

Start 2021 alcohol-free and fundraise for us at Kenward Trust!

2020 has been an incredibly challenging year and more of us as a result have found ourselves drinking at home. Dry January is a campaign run by Alcohol Change UK which means going alcohol-free throughout the entire month of January. 1 in 4 adults who drink want to cut down on their consumption in 2021, so why not start this January and donate the money you would have spent on alcohol to support our work helping those affected by addiction, homelessness and crime to create new abstinent futures for themselves in the community.

What are some of the benefits of taking part in Dry January?

Better sleep

Drinking alcohol can affect your sleep, making you fall quickly into a deep sleep so you miss out on the more restorative parts of sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep has a lot of health benefits including improving your memory and keeping your immune system strong.

More energy

With better sleep, comes more energy the next day, especially without the associated hangover. This will mean that you can be far more productive the next day and find more time for exercising or being outdoors, which can improve both your mental and physical health.

Your general health may improve

Excessive drinking can lead to some serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and liver disease. Even though a month doesn’t seem like a long period of time to reverse any adverse health issues that may have arisen, it is an important step at allowing you time to reassess how much you are drinking and the effect it is having on your body. Research by Royal Free Hospital also found that those who abstained from alcohol for a month showed improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol and cancer-related growth factors.

Are there any benefits after the month is over?

Research by the University of Sussex found that six months after Dry January more than 70% of those who took part were still drinking at a healthier level, they also had an improved level of wellbeing.

Why donate to Kenward Trust?

We are a charity based in Kent and East Sussex which provides support to those affected by addiction, homelessness and crime. Our services span from providing early education to young people in our community outreach and Think Differently programmes, through to residential rehabilitation at our site in Yalding, and supported accommodation in our Move On properties across Kent and East Sussex allowing those who have been through a recovery programme a safe place to call home.

Your donations go directly towards our work, helping those affected by addiction a way to get back on their feet and create a new future for themselves away from alcohol and substances.
